Drink Better with People Who Already Drink Well

The most effective, least painful way to learn something new?
Surround yourself with people -- preferably fun, dynamic, interesting people -- who are already better at it than you are.
Take wine.
If the goal is to DRINK BETTER, as ours is, then surround yourself with people -- fun, dynamic, interesting people -- who are already drinking well.
That would be the Boston Sommelier Society who, by the way, are opening their doors wide open to everyone -- especially non-sommeliers -- for their blow-out gala on Saturday, January 29 at Les Zygomates Wine Bar & Bistro.
Here are three reasons why you should go.
REASON ONE: It's a DEAL. No, $75 per ticket doesn't sound like a deal, not at first. But take a look at everything included in that price and you are bound to change your mind:
- Glass (or two) of sparkling wine (among those available: Domaine de Chevalier Cremant de Bourgogne)
- Glass (or two) of white wine (among those available: St. Clement Chardonnay from Carneros)
- Glass (or two) of red wine (among those available: 1999 Villa Gemma Riserva Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and 2004 Iskra Montepulciano d'Abruzzo)
- Raw bar
- Foie gras
- Caviar
- Charcuterie
- Cheeses
(You're already past the $150 bill for a night out for two people, by the way, but let's keep moving.)
REASON TWO: Live music from the Yoko Miwa Trio. Check their Facebook page.
REASON THREE: Door prizes. Raffle. Swag bag. Including gift cards to local restaurants (this is a room full of sommeliers, after all) and Riedel stemware.
AND A BONUS: Just because these are folks who know how to drink smartly AND safely, they've worked out a special deal with the posh Ames Hotel for the night. Normally a queen room will run you $235. Book before January 15 for this Boston Somm event and your tab is only $150. Save $85.
Go ahead. Grab the tickets. Book the room. And DRINK BETTER with people who are already drinking well.
